Ojude Oba Iperu – Celebrating Royal Heritage, Culture & Unity
OJUDE Oba Iperu is an annual event that is dated back to 1882 during te reign of His Royal Highness, Oba Okupe (Agbonmagbe II). The carnival-like event is usually held on the third day of Ileya festival, and it is used to pay homage to the king.
Participants at this festival cuts across all religious affiliations, and they all come together to honour the King, celebrate the town’s socio-cultural heritage, and promote oneness among themselves, though in the spirit of the Ileya season.
The annual celebration has had its ups and downs, but it is known to have always come out stronger after each collapse. Recent history has it that in the early 70s, a group of muslim faithfuls initiated the revival of the ceremony, and the celebration of which lasted for years.
